Are you nervous or anxious about doing some things because you have a phobia that you go to inconvenient lengths to avoid? Do you have a habit such as smoking, drinking, gambling or shopping, on which you spend time and money when you really know you want to have different priorities? Some people’s lives are less happy than they could be because of compulsions, insecurities, relationship difficulties, stress, anger, sadness, fear or guilt. If you have any of these difficulties in your life, and you want to solve them, there are a number of ways you can be helped. Counselling is a process of talking about where you are, how you got there and how you can change things for the future. People need to explain how they have felt so they can feel they are understood, but I don't ask you to work through your feelings, as that has been found to lock some people into their bad times. Mindfulness is an ancient practice based in Buddhist psychology, that helps people stay focussed in present time, able to deal with life to their full potential. There are ways of gaining insight and self control through mindfulness, that are highly relevant to managing the stresses of modern life. It is about learning to be ''present'' and not overwhelmed by distress from the past or fears for the future. It can involve letting go of unhelpful habits and behaviours, changing limiting beliefs and negative emotions. Mindfulness is particularly good for helping us change the conversations we have with ourselves, that cause us distress or to lose confidence. Once learned, it can be used for further and deeper personal development. NLP (neurolinguistic programming) offers a variety of ways in which you can change the way you feel and behave.
